Hope and healing are all around us here in Memphis, and for the working uninsured who come to us to receive life-saving health and wellness care, that hope and healing start with you.
Claude and his wife own and manage rental homes throughout Memphis. As a husband, father, grandfather and man of faith, Claude is deeply committed to caring for his family and his community, but when faced with the diagnosis of prostate cancer six years ago, his faith was shaken.
“My faith in God was strong, but the human side of me worried. I had a wife, a community, children, a church family, extended family – and they all needed me.”
Claude credits the care he received through the Church Health referral network for saving his life. “Just the ability to talk with Dr. Michael McSwain at the Conrad Person Clinic helped. The concern he showed made me comfortable taking his guidance and advice. He was very thorough, complete, and explained all my options. That was December 2013, and from then and through today, I credit God—and the God in Dr. McSwain—for being six years cancer-free.”
The hope that was reawakened within Claude and many patients like him begins with you.
In His Own Words…
I had heard of prostate cancer, but didn’t know any details about it except who was dying from it. I’m a ordained elder with the Church of God in Christ and remember that our presiding bishop had succumbed to prostate cancer. When it was time for me to return for the results I was afraid. My faith in God was strong but the human side of me worried. I had a wife, a community, children, a church family, extended family – all that needed me.
What would I do? What will they do? How am I going to get through this? God, are you with me? How could this slip up on me? How?
All these thoughts and more constantly traveled through my mind. I knew about trusting in the Lord, casting my cares upon him, I knew like the prophet Isaiah encourages that he never sleeps, but I had a concern for my life. My wife and I met with the urologist and the results came back as inflammation of my glands. He prescribed some medicine then we went on. A couple of years passed and on a physical at the Church Health, my PSA was higher than normal again. They referred me to the Conrad Pearson Clinic and there I met Dr. Micheal McSwain. He was a Christian and we often discussed the bible and experiences and beliefs. Just through the ability to talk with Dr. McSwain and the concerned he showed me made me comfortable taking his guide and advice. When he came back with the results of stage one cancer, he laid out every option available to me and told me to discuss it with my wife and let him know my decision. He was very thorough, complete, and explained all of my options with such concern that I went with the surgery to have the prostate removed. That was December, 2013, and from then until today I credit God and the God in Dr. McSwain for being 6-years cancer free and how he stirred up my faith in God by showing his concern for me to be rid of this for once and all.
Thank God for the Conrad Pearson Clinic and for Church Health!
