I used to be an employee benefits attorney, so I was very aware of the enormous need for good health care– for everyone. But it wasn’t until I completed seminary and became an Episcopal priest that I got involved with Church Health.
It’s been such a thrill to help Jenny Bartlett-Prescott, Church Health’s Senior Director of Integrated Health Programs, on her Quality Team. Being aware of how we make a change for a particular patient — how we address disorders and disease — is inspiring and rewarding. I love being close to the issues and having an impact.
We see patients through to wholeness and health. That’s the key to everything. You can’t work if you’re sick. You can’t live well if you’re sick. God’s plan for all of us is to experience healthy living.
That’s why I became a Champion with a monthly gift to Church Health.
The need for healthcare is only growing. Regular giving by all of us will allow this work to continue.
I often refer people to Church Health, and I sometimes hear back months later that they got the care they needed. Now they could take care of their family. They had medication. They had help.
Because our country’s healthcare is employer-based, people might not realize that the system has cracks, and many people don’t have access to care at all. When you forget that, it’s easy to lose sight of those who fall through the cracks.
Church Health doesn’t let that happen.
In my work with Church Health, I’ve seen people whose lives have been completely changed. They found a physician who can meet their needs. They can be well, healthy, and whole again. This is what God wants for us.
