Welcome to 2019 friends! I hope the holidays brought you rest and renewal. Sunday is Epiphany, the day we remember the wise men from the East who visited Jesus. Since the wise men, or magi, would have been Gentiles, Christians celebrate Epiphany as the day Jesus was revealed to the world. Our lectionary passages for this week include: Isaiah 60:1-6, Psalm 72:1-7, 10-14, Ephesians 3:1-12, and Matthew 2:1-12.
Matthew 2:1-2 – In the time of King Herod, after Jesus was born in Bethlehem of Judea, wise men from the East came to Jerusalem, asking, “Where is the child who has been born king of the Jews? For we observed his star at its rising, and have come to pay him homage.”
On this first work day of 2019, people from all over the world will seek care from our medical, dental, physical therapy, optometric and behavioral health professionals. Today, like so many days before, we are poised with interpreters, language lines and a host of compassionate people to meet their needs as best we can.
Creator God, bless our work today and throughout this year as we seek to bring healing to your children. Amen.
