Mark 9:30-32 – They went on from there and passed through Galilee. Jesus did not want anyone to know it; for he was teaching his disciples, saying to them, “The Son of Man is to be betrayed into human hands, and they will kill him, and three days after being killed, he will rise again.” But they did not understand what he was saying and were afraid to ask him.
It is easy to forget that the disciples struggled with their understanding of Jesus’ teachings and the place in history in which they were all standing. If the disciples had trouble despite their first hand experiences with Jesus, it follows that we should be gentle with one another when specific faith beliefs differ from ours.
Understanding God, help us to be more patient with each other. Help us focus on those things that bind us together rather than those things that divide us. Amen.
