We are approaching the second Sunday of the Advent season, and the prophecies continue in our readings. This week the lectionary selections include: Baruch 5:1-9 (from the Apocrypha) or Malachi 3:1-4, Luke 1:68-79, Philippians 1:3-11, and Luke 3:1-6.
Luke 1:76-77 – And you, child, will be called the prophet of the Most High; for you will go before the Lord to prepare his ways, to give knowledge of salvation to his people by the forgiveness of their sins.
The closer Christmas gets, the more I think of children in my family, my church and even this world. As I read today’s selection, it reminded me that children represent potential that we can’t fully comprehend.
Creator God, help us to see all children as holy and precious gifts from you. Amen.
