We are still in the season of Epiphany, and as we approach the sixth Sunday of this special season we have some familiar passages to consider. Those include: Jeremiah 17:5-10, Psalm 1, 1 Corinthians 15:12-20, and Luke 6:17-26.
Jeremiah 17:7-8 – Blessed are those who trust in the LORD, whose trust is the LORD. They shall be like a tree planted by water, sending out its roots by the stream. It shall not fear when heat comes, and its leaves shall stay green; in the year of drought it is not anxious, and it does not cease to bear fruit.
My first thought when I read this passage was of my family, my coworkers and the members of my faith community. It was a thought of me as a tree, and all of you contribute to this rich stream around me that feeds me spiritually. My prayer is that all of us feel like we are such a tree. Almighty God, strengthen all of us so that we can build a vibrant community that reflects your love. Amen.
