John 5:2-3Now in Jerusalem by the Sheep Gate there is a pool, called in Hebrew Beth-zatha, which has five porticoes. In these lay many invalids–blind, lame, and paralyzed.

According to the belief, an angel would touch the water of the pool, and it would become agitated. The first person to enter the water would be healed of whatever malady they had. So while this image of so many suffering people haunts me, it is also an image of hope: hope for healing.

Healing God, no matter the severity of our situation, give us the strength to never give up our hope. Amen.
