Undergrad School / Major: Northern Arizona University / Biomedical Science
Hi, my name is Kayla and I’m from the rural town of Safford, Az. My mom is a math teacher and my father is both a police sergeant and pastor; we’re aware that this combination of jobs is strange. My family and I run a church in our town, so we have tons of different roles during Sunday service. I grew up in both a musical and athletically driven family. I started playing soccer and learning piano at the age of five. I attended Northern Arizona University and am a pre-med student currently applying for medical school. I completed my degree in Biomedical Science. I came upon the application for the Church Health program by accident but quickly fell in love with the faith-centered mission statement behind this clinic. This gap-year internship is exactly what I wanted to be doing during my gap year because I will be working directly with patients and learning first-hand the rules and responsibilities of a physician. I am excited to play an active role in the clinic and make some great friends in the scholar’s program. Outside of class, I enjoy staying active and going on hikes or working out; the city where I attended college is known for its beautiful hikes and numerous bike trails, so I fit in well. I’m so blessed to be a part of this new community in Memphis and I am looking forward to making this place my home away from home.
