Bequests
A bequest, a gift made through a will or trust, is one of the easiest and most flexible ways to give. With the guidance of an advisor, you can include language in your will or trust specifying a gift be made to family, friends or Church Health as part of your estate plan.
With a bequest, you’ll remain in control of the funds or property during your lifetime, while potentially reducing estate taxes.
You can make a gift in several ways:
- gift a specific dollar amount or asset.
- gift a percentage of your estate.
- gift from the balance or residue of your estate.
- make a beneficiary designation of certain assets.
IRA Charitable Rollover
An IRA charitable rollover is a way you can help continue the important work of Church Health and see possible tax benefits.
If you are over the age of 70 ½ years, you can make a qualified charitable distribution (QCD) from your IRA of up to $100,000 per year directly to the charity of your choice.
Donors who choose to support Church Health with IRA distributions do not rely on income from retirement accounts or do not want to make donations out of pocket.
Benefits of an IRA gift:
- A charitable gift transferred from your IRA directly to Church Health will not be taxed and can satisfy your required minimum distribution (RMD), maximizing benefits to both you and Church Health.
- An IRA gift can be directed to unrestricted support for Church Health’s mission or a specific program area.
Stock Gifts & Transfers
Gifts of long-term appreciated assets—those that gain value and are held for more than one year—are a tax-smart way to support your favorite charities, like Church Health. This includes company stock, shares in privately held companies, real estate, fine art, antiques, and collectibles
Giving assets directly to charity, rather than selling them and then making a cash gift, provides several tax benefits:
- The donor receives an income tax deduction for their gift for the fair market value of the assets.
- The donor does not pay capital gains taxes that would have been assessed if the assets were sold.
- The benefitting charity receives the full fair market value of the gift.
Donor-Advised Funds
A donor-advised fund (DAF) is a philanthropic giving vehicle that provides an immediate tax benefit to you and allows you to recommend grants to your favorite charities, like Church Health.
You can give through a DAF in the following ways:
- Recommend a gift by contacting your fund administrator or by granting online.
- Set up recurring grants to Church Health to secure the comprehensive health care in your community.
- Name Church Health as a beneficiary of your DAF.
