Early screening for cervical cancer is a life-saving measure that can ensure health, wellness and quality of life for countless women. Finding cancer early is vital when the chance of being cured is high.
At Church Health, fifty-eight percent of our patients aged 21 to 64 are up to date on their cervical cancer screenings. Church Health’s cervical health screenings attest to our commitment to whole-person care for 2,400 patients!
Patients like Annie Freres experienced life-saving care through our committed and compassionate volunteer providers and clinic staff.
As a box office manager and entertainer, Annie knows how to prepare for a role before a performance. One role she could never have prepared for was that of a cancer patient.
When she was an uninsured college student, Annie learned of Church Health through a friend. She signed up for insurance through our MEMPHIS Plan for small businesses and students.
“Church Health took the stress of figuring out the health care system,” Annie said.
In the fall of 2019 during a routine gynecological exam, Annie was diagnosed with stage three cervical cancer. She was referred to the West Cancer Clinic for a surgical consultation.
“I underwent a radical hysterectomy on January 6, 2020,” Annie explained. “Just having this kind of care made me feel so much better. I knew I was being taken care of and wasn’t being recommended for some surgery I didn’t need. Church Health and West Cancer Clinic were willing to answer all my questions.”Through the MEMPHIS Plan, Annie’s care also means access to several resources for physical and mental well-being. Annie credits these resources with providing her lasting peace of mind.
“I can’t get over the fact Church Health saved my life,” Annie said. “I never had to do chemo because the routine cancer screening discovered my cancer right away.”
People who fear the costs of preventative care can experience Church Health’s commitment to the whole person, not just a patient. Our affordability for cervical cancer screenings and other preventative screenings ensures the best quality of life for our at-risk Memphis neighbors.
“When our patients visit the clinic, we check for preventative screenings based on age, gender, chronic conditions, if they’re women under 65,” said Dr. Susan Nelson, Church Health’s top-performing provider for cervical cancer screenings. “Cervical cancer, like breast cancer, can sneak up on you. There are usually no symptoms until it’s too late. Catch it early for the best chance to be cured.”
Life-saving, preventative care for patients like Annie happens because of your support in our mission. Treating others how we all want to be treated.
