Frances Childress had trouble breathing and gasped between her words before she came to Church Health. Retired as both a school nutritionist and Shelby County deputy jailor, she suffered from stress and anxiety caring for others in her career. This stress led to degenerative health and heart issues.
She was in jeopardy of not being able to care for her grandchildren and hearing-impaired husband. Family friend and Church Health provider, Dr. Shelia Thomas, addressed Frances’ shortness of breath, exhaustion and irregular heartbeat.
“Dr. Thomas wondered how I was still standing,” Frances said. “I had no idea what was going on with my body. Suddenly, my breathing level was so low when I spoke.”
Through the magic of Church Health’s network of health care partners, Dr. Thomas connected Frances with cardiologist Dr. Mark Coppess, at Stern Cardiovascular Clinic. Frances underwent surgery for a stent followed by a regiment of medications which improved her health, breathing and left her symptoms in check.
Church Health magic is only possible with our health care partners to provide the quality affordable health care we all deserve, like Frances. She was drawn to that magic along with our commitment to teamwork, one-on-one care and staying connected to Church Health through a relationship with Dr. Thomas.
“People love to come to Church Health because of good doctors that take time with you and care about your wellbeing,” Frances added. “That’s why my family and I love coming here.”
