Watch our Patient Spotlight Interview with Wendy Thompson

Wendy Thompson, a Memphis resident, is a devoted mother of four daughters and grandmother to eight grandchildren. As a caregiver herself, Wendy spends her days supporting individuals with intellectual disabilities. However, in recent years, her own health challenges began to weigh heavily on her life.

Wendy struggled with knee pain that made walking difficult, high blood pressure that went untreated, and vision issues due to cataracts. Without affordable health care, she found herself in a cycle of costly emergency room visits, accumulating bills she couldn’t manage.

Her search for relief led her to Church Health, where she was introduced to the MEMPHIS Plan. This affordable program offered her access to comprehensive care that had been out of reach. For the first time, Wendy had a place to go for her medical needs without facing overwhelming costs.

Under Church Health’s care, Wendy received injections and eventually knee replacement surgery to ease her knee pain. She was also given medications to regulate her blood pressure, and cataract surgery that restored her sight. With each step of her treatment, she felt her life returning to her. “I can see, I can walk, and my blood pressure is now normal,” she shared, her gratitude evident.

Dr. Kirsten McKnight the Eye Clinic Director with Wendy at Church Health.

Wendy appreciates the simplicity and warmth of her experience at Church Health. Everything she needs—from dental work to blood work—was available under one roof. She no longer had to navigate multiple clinics, and the staff makes her feel comfortable, valued, and supported.

Reflecting on the difference Church Health has made, Wendy expresses deep gratitude. “Without their support, I wouldn’t be here. They’ve done so much for me, and my life is better because of them.” Today, she feels hopeful, healthier, and empowered to continue caring for her loved ones, a gift she attributes to the dedicated team of staff, volunteers and donors behind Church Health.

For those considering Church Health, Wendy offers encouragement: “It’s affordable, they work with you, and they’ll get you the help you need.”
