Artist Statement
“My inspiration comes from the many artists I have studied over the years, and
the beauty experienced during my extensive travels around the USA and Europe. I am primarily a painter who works with acrylic, oil, gouache, watercolor, ink,
gold and silver leaf. My process is intuitive. I layer warm and cool colors rather than using a clean and isolated palette and am drawn to the way rhythmic lines can suggest figures, objects, and landscapes. I invite the viewer to find their own associations within the layered surfaces and shapes.”
Katie Hill earned a Master of Arts Honors degree in German and History of Art from the University of Edinburgh in Scotland. She has studied under various studio art instructors at the University of Tuebingen, Germany; Edinburgh College of Art, Scotland; Memphis College of Art, TN and The Art Students League of New York, NY. Additionally, she has taught art outreach at the Frist Center for Visual Arts in Nashville, the Dixon Gallery and Gardens and the Memphis Brooks Museum of Art.
Katie resides in Memphis, TN with her husband and four sons.
